About KRA

Lawrence Kaagan

Larry Kaagan is president of Kaagan Research Associates.

From 1978 to 1989, he was with the Yankelovich research group, where, as Senior Vice President, he directed the firm’s work in environmental scanning, policy analysis and opinion research on political, social and corporate issues. He collaborated with Daniel Yankelovich on the 1981 book, NEW RULES.

A graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, Mr. Kaagan was a post-graduate research director at Northwestern’s Center for Urban Affairs. He has been a visiting professor in the Honors Program at Villanova University, and a planning consultant to the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

He has been a research consultant on numerous projects evaluating consumer trends, marketing strategies and communications planning for such widely diverse clients as the California Department of Food & Agriculture, Cisco Systems, BMW, and Grupo Leon Jimenes (Dominican Republic).

In addition to his consultancies in consumer research, marketing strategy and corporate communications, he has, since 1983, been the director of political polling for the daily El Nuevo Dia, the largest-circulation newspaper in Puerto Rico.

Marcus Matthews

Marc Matthews is executive vice president and partner at Kaagan Research Associates and was responsible for the development of The Sextant System. Along with Larry Kaagan, Mr. Matthews is responsible for the overall management of KRA Inc., with special emphasis on overseeing the design, execution, analysis and overall quality of the firm's work in social trends, public opinion polling, corporate consulting and public policy. Experienced in the application and execution of qualitative, quantitative and hybrid research approaches, he has designed and shepherded numerous innovative research studies for clients in the United States and abroad.

Mr. Matthews worked with Mr. Kaagan at the Daniel Yankelovich Group in the 1980s, and joined KRA at its founding in 1989. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and received a Master's Degree from the Graduate School of Political Management at George Washington University.

Carla Torrielli

Carla Torrielli is vice president at Kaagan Research Associates. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Dartmouth College, Ms. Torrielli also studied abroad at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid. Her degree in Psychology and research interests in social and cultural dynamics led her both into a junior-year internship at KRA, and then into independent study of social interaction and community structures on a college campus, using both quantitative methods and qualitative fieldwork.

Carla manages KRA's political polling, consumer and trend research activties in Puerto Rico and elsewhere in Latin America, and coordinates "household anthopology" fieldwork for The Sextant System.
